Each year, the Capital Area Gator Club offers scholarships to admitted students in the club's membership area in honor and in memory of Stephen C. O'Connell, a former Chief Justice of the Florida Supreme Court and President of the University of Florida from 1967 to 1973. Mr. O'Connell exemplified leadership during his tenure as a student at UF and throughout his remarkable career of service to our state and the University in the years that followed. The scholarships bearing his name emphasize and reward these principles of leadership as demonstrated by the University's latest incoming class of students joining the Gator Nation from the capital region. The continued support of local University of Florida Alumni Association members and fans of the Gator Nation help support this investment in new students who represent the future of UF and of our state. The Capital Area Gator Club is hopeful the opportunity to compete for these scholarships will serve as an introduction to the strong community of support these students will be fortunate to experience in the Gator Nation and a reminder of the many opportunities that await each of them as a Florida Gator.
The Capital Area Gator Club is comprised of University of Florida Alumni and Friends of the Gator Nation seeking to bring “Civilization Among the Savages” in Tallahassee, Florida. All friends of the Gator Nation are welcome as we regularly schedule events, game watching parties, and fundraisers to further the Gator cause.
